[hurd1 image]

This map shows the entrance to Higher Fence Road off the B5470 coming either from Whaley Bridge or from Hazel Grove. If you are coming from the Hazel Grove direction you can avoid the Tesco roundabout by taking the earlier roundabout and coming downn Hulley Road to the juncton with the B5470, where Higher Fence road is straight across the junction. Members coming from the Congleton direction look out for the Holy Trinity church on the right, the turn off to Higher Fence Lane is about 200 yards after the church on the right.Coming from Whaley Bridge look our for Higher Fence Road on the left after crossing the Macclesfield canal bridge. There is a Chinese takeaway immediately opposite this lane called the SUMMER GARDENS. After entering Higher Fence Lane proceed for approximately half mile when you will see a white gate in front of you, parking is to the right alongside an old Volvo truck. [hurd2 image] This is the way to the two reservoirs from the farm. After leaving the car park you go through the gate on the road and turn left down Whitney Croft. After passing several houses on the right and left the path forks to the left to a couple of houses and right into a building called "The Old Stables"(sign on the wall). In front of you is a gate into a large field, a public footpath is to the right of the gate.If you want to go to the lower reservoir then you need to use the footpath as there is no gate in the fence on the field side.Going to the top reservoir by the path can be quite tedious as you will be required to go up quite a large numberof steps( the final flight has twenty eight steps)before you reach the gate in the fence on your left.So you are better off using the field, keep to the left as it is quite boggy at the moment. The owner of this site has said that he has no objection to you driving through this field when it is dry.At the moment both the footpath and the field are muddy and soggy.
