Linnet Clough Reservoir and route from New Mills and Hazel Grove

[linpic image]

This water is located in Mellor. From New Mills take the B6101 to Marple via Strines and head for the junction with the A626 on the far side of Marple, where you turn right towards Marple Bridge. From the Hazel Grove, Stockport areas head for Marple on the A626, turn left in Marple at Texaco petrol station onto station Road. This road leads you to Brabyns Brow which takes you over the Peak Forest Canal and then past Brabyns Park on the left. The descent on this road is to lights at Marple Bridge. Turn right at the lights at the bottom of the hill into Town Street. You will pass a row of shops on the left and a wall on the right behind which is the River Goyt. Proceed along this road. This is Longhurst Lane which climbs into Mellor leading to The Royal Oak on the right.Just prior to the pub is the Cenotaph where you turn acute right into an unadopted road which is called Parkside Lane, where you can park your car.Leave the car and walk down the lane taking the turn to the left down Old Hall Lane . The walk down this lane is about 100 yards, which brings you to the last house on the left, just after which you will see a gate and to the right of the gate is a style. When I visited this site last year the whole access area into the field is taped off but this is intended to keep the resident horse away from the clart and general mess.

In wet weather this area becomes very muddy and you need wellies. Under dry conditions you can go straight down the field until you meet a path leading to the left.Under wet conditions walk about 80 yards to the left and then down the slope, where you will meet a path which will lead you to a style in the corner

.

Go through the style and follow this path to the left to the reservoir. If you look across the field from the access area you will see what I believe is an oak tree, keep to the left of this and you should be O.K. for the path.

This water contains quality carp, a few bream and a variety of small fish.
