    The Goyt is a major tributary of the Mersey which it joins in Stockport the confluence with the River Sett is at New Mills. The River Sett flows down from Kinder Scout, the highest point of the Pennines.This whole river network was heavily polluted. In the last forty years there has been a steady improvement in water quality and salmon in addition to grayling and trout are now found in these waters.
