This water is situated on the left hand side of the A6015 (New Mills to Hayfield Road), opposite the Grouse pub, it is also accessible by the back road through New Mills passing Watford Lodge. Birch Vale is open throughout the year.

Juniors are not allowed to fish on the river side of the reservoir unless they are accompanied by a senior member. The water is very deep on this side as indicated by the signs. There is no fishing off the dam wall.

Live baiting is prohibited but spinners and pre-packed deadbaits are allowed. Anglers must be three pegs away from any other angler. Barbless hooks must be used and debarbed spinners when fishing for pike. Two rods may be also be used when fishing for pike. You are advised not to park on the road or in front of the pub. However,if you drive up the steep bank by the side of the Grouse there is ample parking available at the back of the pub. I spoke to the landlord on Wednesday 13th June 2007 to ascertain that parking is still OK which he confirmed,as is the use of the toilet amenities. He aims to put food on shortly at the moment this service is not available. No pike to be removed
